Exchanged Glory IV: A Time for Every Purpose
The majority of the events I have described in this book took place between 1998 and the beginning of 2003. I wrote the first draft of this book in the summer of 2003. The emotions I felt – the discouragement about the long struggle, the offense that God had allowed it, and the shock over the path out – were all still churning within me as I wrote. Getting the book out into words was easy. I just opened my heart and let my emotions pour out. I can’t tell you how many times I cried in the process.
When I finished my first draft, the theology I shared from Ecclesiastes was still taking form, and I knew few of the insights I have shared concerning the emotional roots of the smoking fetish. That made the development of this book different from the first three books in this series. I was still very much fleshing out the lessons as I wrote and rewrote them. To a large extent, getting them into book form was what God used to work them into my life.
It is now 2012, and I doubt I could write the same book if I started today. I just don’t feel the inner shock and angst in the same way I did when I started. When I read the book now, I am a little taken aback as I remember my emotional distress. …That is a good thing. It means God has been healing me.
There is one book left in this series: Exchanged Glory V: God Meant it for Good. It continues the theme of finding peace and fulfillment in the plan of God. I look forward to sharing that message with you, Lord willing, when it is time for that purpose.
