Psalm 107:1-15, 17-22 Close to RSV

  1. O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;

  2. for his steadfast love endures for ever!

  3. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,

  4. whom he has redeemed from trouble

  5. and gathered in from the lands,

  6. from the east and from the west,

    from the north and from the south.

  7. Some wandered in desert wastes,

  8. finding no way to a city to dwell in;

  9. hungry and thirsty,

  10. their soul fainted within them.

  11. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,

  12. and he saved them from their distress;

  13. he led them by a straight way,

  14. till they reached a city to dwell in.

  15. Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,

  16. for his wondrous works to the sons of men!

  17. For he satisfies the thirsty,

  18. and the hungry he fills with good things.

  19. Some sat in darkness and in gloom,

  20. prisoners in affliction and in irons,

  21. for they had rebelled against the Lord's word,

  22. and spurned the counsel of the Most High.

  23. Their hearts were bowed with hard labor;

  24. they fell down, with none to help.

  25. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,

  26. and he saved them from their distress;

  27. he brought them out of darkness and gloom,

  28. and broke their bonds asunder.

  29. Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,

  30. for his wondrous works to men!

  1. Some were sick through their sinful ways,

  2. and from their iniquities suffered affliction;

  3. they loathed any kind of food,

  4. and drew near to the gates of death.

  5. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,

  6. and he saved them from their distress;

  7. he sent forth his word, and healed them,

  8. and delivered them from destruction.

  9. Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,

  10. for his wondrous works to the sons of men!

  11. Let them offer gifts of thanksgiving,

  12. and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!
