JSPs 22:1-15

Psalm 22:1-15, (Based on the New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicised Edition)

Lyrics and music by Jason Silver

  1. My God, my God,

  2. Why have you forsaken me?

    Why are you so far from helping me,

    From the words of my groaning?

  3. O my God,

  4. I cry by day, but you do not answer;

    Cry by night, but find no rest.

  5. But you are holy,

  6. Enthroned on the praises of Israel.

  7. In you they trusted;

  8. Our ancestors trusted, you delivered them.

  9. To you they cried, and were saved;

  10. In you they trusted, and were not put to shame.

  11. But I'm a worm,

  12. I'm not a man; I'm scorned by others,

    I'm despised by all,

  13. They mock at me;

  14. And they shake their heads, sneering;

    "Where's your God?

  15. "He trusts the Lord," they say, "Let God rescue Him"

  16. "Save him in whom He delights."

  17. Yet it was you who,

  18. Who took me from the womb and kept me safe;

  19. On you I was cast,

  20. And since my mother bore me you've been my God.

  21. Do not be far from me,

  22. For trouble is near and there's no one to help.

  23. Many bulls have

  24. Encircled me, strong bulls of Bashan,

    Surrounded me;

  25. They open wide their mouths

  26. Like a ravening lion.

  27. I'm poured out,

  28. I am poured out like water, and all my

    All my bones are out of joint;

    And my heart is like wax;

    It is melted within my breast;

  29. My mouth is dried up

  30. Like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws;

    You lay me down in the dust;

    Yes, you lay me down in the dust of death.
