Psalm 10, Paraphrase

Lyrics and music by Shane Heilman (lyrics with chords)

  1. Why do You stand so far away, Yahweh?

  2. Why do You hide Yourself in troubled times?

  3. For the wicked in their pride oppress and rob the poor

  4. Let them be caught in the schemes they have devised

  5. For the wicked boast about their hearts' desire

  6. They celebrate greed and reject the LORD

  7. For the wicked in their pride refuse to seek Him

  8. All of their thoughts are, "There is no God"

  9. And his ways seem to prosper all the time

  10. Your judgments are too high, they're out of his sight

As for his enemies, he laughs at them

  11. Says to himself, "I will always be rich"

  12. And his mouth is full of lies

  13. He makes promises, but under his tongue he hides his intentions

  14. And he lurks in the shadows watching for a means of gain

  15. And where no one can see, he kills the innocent

  16. And like a lion lurking in his lair

  17. He pounces on the helpless when they fall into his trap

  18. And his claws sink into his prey

  19. He says to himself that God has forgotten, He's hidden His face, he will never see it, no no

  20. Arise, arise O LORD

  21. Arise, arise!

Arise, O LORD, lift up Your hand, O God

    Do not forget the oppressed

  22. Why have the wicked spurned God?

  23. They have said to themselves You will not avenge

  24. But You will avenge, You've seen the injustice, You've seen the suffering

  25. Of the lowly, who place their fate in Your hands

For You have always been the helper of the orphan

  26. O, break the arm of the wicked

  27. Seek out their wickedness until You find no more

Seek out their wickedness until You find no more

Seek and destroy! Seek and destroy their evil!

Seek and destroy! Seek and destroy injustice!

  28. Yahweh is king forever, Yahweh is king forever

  29. Yahweh is king forever, Yahweh is king forever

Yahweh is king forever, His enemies come and go

  30. LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble

  31. You will strengthen their heart, and You will incline Your ear

  32. It's justice for the orphan and the oppressed so that man who is of the earth

  33. So that man who is of the earth

So that man who is of the earth

So that man who is of the earth

    Shall no longer oppress

    Shall no longer oppress

    Shall no longer oppress

Lift up Your hand, lift up Your hand
