Freedom in God's Divine Order for Women
John Whritenor worked as an engineer and engineering manager for IBM from 1958 to 1990. In 1978 he became part of a collegial eldership in Fountain of Life Church in Kingston, New York and functioned as a pastoring elder there for 12 years. In 1989 he was sent out with a team to start a church in Saugerties, New York. He has pastored as part of the collegial eldership of Saugerties Christian Fellowship since that time.
John approaches theological problems with an engineering discipline. He examines in detail proposals that are advanced to solve a problem, studies commentaries, Greek/Hebrew lexicons, and several versions of the Bible, consults with experts in related fields, and then compares the propositions to find the right answer. The main difference between a theological problem and an engineering one is the measuring rod. For answers to theological questions the Bible is the standard rather than mathematical theories, engineering text books, creative intuition, and lists of man-made design objectives that are used for engineering projects. God should be the one who defines the design objectives rather than man in theological issues. Many people who propose changing women’s ministries use an approach similar to the engineering model. They start with man-made objectives, study books that propose similar goals, apply creative intuition, and at times consult with “experts” who agree with their objectives. They then search diligently for ways to make Scripture fit their goals. The result can only be error. John believes that we can never arrive at Biblical truth by trying to make God’s word agree with human precepts.
