The Apostolic and Prophetic Foundation

Foreword

The Lord asked Job a question: “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?”

The Lord asks another question through the message of this excellent book by Donald Rumble: “Do you understand the foundation that I have laid, upon which I shall build my church?”

The answer to this question can be found in God’s word. Scripture is quite clear that all the ministries listed in Eph. 4:11 are necessary to fulfill God’s purpose in and through the church. In essence, this involves four crucial steps.

  • Unveiling the cornerstone that God has laid for His house;

  • Building believers together upon that cornerstone;

  • Shepherding and equipping believers for their unique place of service, so they become a corporate, living, functioning body in the Spirit, united under the headship of Christ;

  • Demonstrating through the church the love, mercy, compassion, power and grace of God (i.e., His glory) to the world.

Remove the ministries of apostles and prophets from this process, and what is left clearly cannot fulfill the purpose of God!

Donald Rumble presents a lucid and Biblical picture of the place that prophets and apostles should have in building the church. His insight is supported by the experience he has acquired in over thirty years of ministry. The essential heart of his message is showing how the attributes and ministry functions of apostles and prophets serve to establish the headship of Christ in the church.

Donald’s exegesis is noteworthy for these reasons:

  • He writes with revelation.

  • The authority of his arguments are based on Scripture, not the roots of institutional tradition.

  • He does not cloud primary issues with details of implementation.

Furthermore, his conclusions are applicable to the whole Body of Christ. They can be summed up as follows: “Give the Lord back His church.

This book is a “must read” for church leaders, especially those who are moving in the current visitation of God, and who recognize that the church will be restored and prepared to gather in a great end-time harvest.

It will be a book of vision and encouragement to those ministers who have been called by God as apostles and prophets, but who currently feel unfulfilled, and perhaps even frustrated, in the roles of church pastor or itinerant evangelist.

I view this book as a leading edge voice in the restoration that lies ahead for the church, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
