The War for the Soul of the Church

Foreword

DON RUMBLE writes with spiritual understanding, compassion, and authority when he discusses God’s plan for the Church and the world. This is a powerful book that gives us a glimpse into the future when the manifest presence of God will be perceived by many. Don writes, “He [God] is calling near to himself all who will listen, that many may hear and gain new insight into His beauty, His grace, and His purpose.”

God wants to fill the Earth with His glory. This is prophesied by the Prophet Habakkuk: “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).

God is in the process of bringing His Church into completion, but what must take place before this happens? Don Rumble points out that many things will take place, such as a great shaking, increasing glory, the increase of Christ among the nations, removing the religious spirit, submission to the Master Potter and God’s invasion of His Church that will lead us into victory. Many of these things are already taking place.

The last days have begun. God is arising in the Earth and He is working His purposes out. History’s conclusion is unfolding before us, and Don writes about each of these details with a clarity that is seldom seen in books of eschatology. He points out that great change is necessary before this great consummation will take place.

He writes, also, about the resistance to God’s work that is arising in the world today. “When we consider our own nation [the United States of America], we see a growing and spreading darkness. And the Church has seemed unable to stem the tide. But this will change,” Don writes. What are some of those changes? Many will hear and respond to God’s call and be born of the Spirit, but others will not. There will be a restoration of the New Testament apostolic and prophetic ministries. God will no longer allow proud and self-promoting individuals to build His house on Earth.

Some believers will not understand these things. Some will even fall away. Those who want intimacy with God, however, will draw close to Him, and they will receive new and fresh insights into the heart and purposes of God.

This is central to the war [the war for the soul of the Church]. For the Church to win this war we must humble ourselves and respond to the Lord with obedience, as Jesus did 2000 years ago. We must remember that God is again preparing a body for His Son. All impediments to this process need to be removed.

God wants us to draw near to Him so that He can draw near to us. We are not our own. Remembering this, we must cry out to Him in difficult times and embrace the cross by responding to His summons to come near.

Don writes, “So what is causing the present shaking? Moses informs us that when the Lord descended upon Mount Sinai, it shook violently (Exodus 19:18). Later, Isaiah the prophet cried out for God to rend the heavens and come down so that the mountains (often a symbol for nations and kingdoms) would shake at His presence (Isaiah 64:1). Put simply, the Earth convulses at the presence of God. I submit to you that we are experiencing an increase of His manifest presence. And the status quo simply cannot survive.”

Don writes, “The question before us is not whether the Lord is arising into His house, but whether we will turn, lift up our heads, and welcome into our midst this mighty warrior King who has set His sights on the whole Earth.”

God is developing a manuscript–an international writing project–that will lead us to grow up as a body unto Him. We are in the process of maturing into the day of Christ’s appearing. Great joy awaits all those who persevere in the things of God.

I want to personally thank God for leading Don to write this book. It takes courage to stand for righteousness at a time when it seems that so many are falling away. I pray that thousands of people will read this book and apply its truths to their lives.

This book shows that the Church of Jesus Christ is on the threshold of a doorway into greater power. What an exciting time it will be as believers all over the world step through this doorway and let God’s power work through them to bring about greater unity, healing, and victory.

I am looking forward to the new era that lies ahead, which Don reveals to the reader in vivid ways. May his ministry and his books be blessed and may they find their way into the hands of many. Thank you, Don.
