Tips for Using this Site

Here are some tips for using this site:

  1. On pages that show a list of pages, books, or chapters, click on the page, book, or chapter name and your browser will take you there. You can also navigate between pages using the << and >> links at the top or bottom of a page. You can click on the word between << and >> to jump up one level to a list of pages, books, or chapters.

  2. If a Where I Was button appears at the top of a page, clicking it will take you to the last place you visited in a book.

  3. When most people read a book with paper pages, they use a single bookmark to keep track of how far they have read. This lets them quickly pick up reading from the place where they left off. The Marker button on the top of most pages acts as this sort of bookmark for this site. If you click it, you will be brought back to the last place in the book that you have marked. It is more reliable than the Where I Was button, because you have to specifically mark the spot. (The destination of the Where I Was button changes every time you visit a different part of the book, so it may move away from the last spot where you were reading when you look at a different part of the book.) There are two ways to mark a spot in a book.

    1. You can click on any header in the book. It will change color to indicate that it is the current Marker.

    2. You can set the Marker to point to a spot where there is no header. To do this:

      1. Move to the spot you want to mark

      2. Click in the upper right hand corner of the screen to enter the Navigation page

      3. Click on the SetMarker button.

  4. If you are happy with the appearance of this page (the one you are now reading), and you don't want to read any more tips right now, the above four items have told you everything you need to know! You can get to a book by clicking Home above, clicking on a set of books, and choosing a book.

  5. After you have visited a chapter in a book, a * symbol will appear next to the link to the chapter in the book's table of contents. This is to help you remember which pages you have visited. You can remove the * symbol by clicking on it. You can remove all * symbols by clicking on To clear all 'chapter visited' symbols (*) click here.

  6. Click on the Appearance button at the top of a page to change the format of the book you are viewing. You can test this out on this page. After you have changed the format, the following lines will show what the various types of text used in books will look like:

    Normal text

    Title

    Header 1

    Header 2

    Header 3

    Header 4

  7. Click in the upper right hand corner of almost any screen to do advanced navigation. Then you can click through to the navigation page. Try it on this page.
