Exchanged Glory II: The OK Stronghold
Bill and I first met when he was an undergraduate student in a large mid-western university. Little did I know that over twenty years later, I would be writing a foreword for one of his books (actually a second foreword for his second book). I had the privilege of being Bill’s pastor while he was in college. Even then, there was a transparency and honesty that boded well for his recovery.
Janet (my wife) and I got to know him well. He was a frequent overnight guest after Friday night church. We were all younger in those days and enjoyed those big country meals together. I remember long talks in that little country house on the hillside. But I think I remember the laughter even more.
It may not be fair to say, but Exchanged Glory II: The OK Stronghold is my favorite book in the series. I do have “favorite” pages and chapters in each book. But somehow here there is such a rush of contemporaneous insights, each so clear in its own perception, that one could almost expect that they could be “patented.” But I suppose that since much of the impetus for revelation comes from the Lord, Bill will have to sit on the “lesser” seat.
For those who are recovering from spiritual abuse as well, there is a fresh opportunity to learn liberating truths to free them from religious trappings. A voice, Biblically attuned, yet full of truth and grace, shares in a culturally relevant manner. The “OK Busters” (chapters nine-fourteen) are gems that you will want to hold to the light of understanding and examine. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear “OK Stronghold” stories and testimonies beginning to pop up in recovery groups.
I believe that you will enjoy this book as much as I did. Bravo! Bill.
