Psalm 18, (Based on the New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicised Edition)

Lyrics and music by Jason Silver

  1. I love you, Lord,

  2. You are my strength.

  3. The Lord's my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,

  4. I'll trust in you, my shield,

    And the horn of my salvation,

    My strong tower.

  5. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;

  6. So I'll be saved from my enemies.

  7. The cords of death surround; and the flood of hell assailed me;

  8. The rope of Sheol has entangled me;

  9. In my distress I called, to my God I cried for help.

  10. He heard my voice from his temple.

  11. The earth began to shake, the foundations of the mountains

  12. Because the Lord: he was angry.

  13. Smoke went up from his nostrils,

  14. And fire from his mouth;

  15. He bowed the heavens, and came down;

  16. Thick darkness under his feet.

  17. He rode a cherub, and

  18. He flew upon the wings of the wind.

  19. He made the dark his coat, and his canopy thick clouds

  20. Out of the light, coals and hailstones

  21. He thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice.

  22. He sent his arrows, and scattered them;

  23. He flashed his lightning, scared them.

  24. He opened up the sea

  25. Foundations of the world were laid bare

  26. He reached down from on high, and

  27. Drew me out of the sea.

  28. Delivered me from my strong enemy.

  29. So they confronted me on the day of my calamity;

  30. But the Lord was my support, and he saved, delighted in me.

  31. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness;

  32. According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me.

  33. For I have kept his ways and have not wickedly departed

  34. For all his ordinances were before me, I did not leave them

  35. Blameless before him, and I kept myself from guilt

  36. Therefore he has repaid me according to my righteousness, I am clean!

  37. With the loyal you show yourself loyal;

  38. With the blameless you show yourself blameless;

  39. With the pure you show yourself pure;

  40. And with the crooked you show yourself perverse.

  41. You deliver a humble people,

  42. But the haughty eyes you bring down.

  43. It is you who light my lamp;

  44. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness.

  45. By you I'll crush a troop, by my God leap over walls.

  46. This God – his way is perfect;

  47. The promise of the Lord proves true; he is a shield

    For all who take refuge in him.

  48. Who's God except the Lord? Who's a rock besides our God?

  49. God gives me strength, made my way safe.

  50. He made my feet like deer, set me safe upon the heights.

  51. He trains my hands: I can bend a bow.

  52. You've given me the shield of

  53. The shield of salvation,

    Your right hand has helped me, made me great.

  54. You gave me a wide path and

  55. So my feet did not slip.

  56. I overtook my enemies;

  57. I struck them down, they could not rise;

  58. They fell under my feet,

  59. For you gave strength for war;

  60. You made them sink and turn, those who hated me I destroyed.

  1. Cast them out.

  2. You rescued me from strife and you made me head of nations;

  3. People unknown served, obeyed me;

  4. Foreigners lose their nerve and came trembling from their strongholds.

  5. The Lord's alive! Blessed be my rock,

  6. Exalted be God of my salvation,

  7. Gave me vengeance

  8. God who subdued people under me;

  9. Delivered me indeed, you exalted me over enemies;

  10. Delivered me from the violent.

  11. For this I will

  12. Exalt you, Lord,

    And sing praise to your name

  13. Great triumphs he gives his king,

  14. Shows steadfast love to his anointed,

    To David and his descendants

    Forever.
