Fulfilling the Mystery

Part Two: Prophetic Ministry

Preface 2

In part two of Fulfilling the Mystery - Apostolic and Prophetic Ministry in the Book of Revelation, we will take a glimpse at prophetic ministry as it is revealed in the Apocalypse. We are immediately gripped with the fact that the forces of hell have been released into the earth to devour God’s field.[8] Across the earth we see demonic power influencing men and nations with godless philosophies of education, government, and interpersonal relationships. At the same time, we are aware of the Lord himself arising in mighty visitation to bring His people fresh insight into His purpose for the earth. Central to His present word is the truth of His absolute lordship over the nations. The earth is the Lord’s, not Satan’s.

However, in the New Testament we run into the concept of mystery – truth that no one would understand if God did not reveal it. Of course, the mystery of God is none other than God himself manifested in a body of flesh. Christ is the mystery of God. But the story does not end there. Because the Holy Spirit has been poured out upon believers, the mystery continues on in some measure for God continues to manifest himself in a corporate body of flesh – the Body of Christ. This mystery will progressively come to fullness as God brings this age to an end.

Until then, we are called to discover the holy places in His house. We must not stand at a distance; we must draw near to Him. Believers who live in such intimacy will have the effect of attracting others to do likewise. The problem is that when the Lord arises in the earth He often surprises us all. How will we recognize His work? Of great comfort to all is the truth that He always bears witness to His activity. Every fact will be confirmed in the mouth of at least two witnesses. Herein lies the call to prophetic ministry.

But the cost is great. It is nothing less than death and resurrection. While God’s enemies rejoice over the death that the prophets experience, such death is in fact the doorway into resurrection power sealing the doom of all who oppose Him.
