Psalm 10, (Based on the New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicised Edition)

Lyrics and music by Jason Silver

  1. Why, O Lord, do you stand far off?

  2. Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

  3. In arrogance the wicked persecute the poor

  4. Let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.

  5. For the wicked boast of the desires of their heart,

  6. Those greedy for gain curse and renounce the Lord.

  7. In the pride of their countenance the wicked say, "God will not seek it out";

  8. All of their thoughts are, "There is no God."

  9. Their ways prosper at all times;

  10. Your judgments are on high, out of their sight;

    As for their foes, they scoff at them.

  11. They think in their heart, "We shall not be moved;

  12. Throughout all generations we shall not meet adversity."

  13. Oppressor's mouths are filled with cursing and deceit;

  14. Under their tongues are mischief and sin.

  15. They sit in ambush in the villages;

  16. In hiding places they murder the innocent.

    Their eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;

  17. They lurk in secret like a lion;

  18. They seize the poor and drag them off in their net.

  19. They stoop, they crouch, and the helpless fall.

  20. They think in their heart, "God has forgotten, he has hidden his face,"

  21. Rise up, O Lord; do not forget the oppressed.

  22. Why do the wicked renounce God,

  23. And say in their hearts, "You will not call us to account"?

  24. But you do see! Indeed you note trouble and grief,

  25. That you may take it into your hands;

    The helpless commit themselves to you;

    You have been the helper of the orphan.

  26. Break the arm of the wicked;

  27. Seek out their wickedness until you find no more.

  28. The Lord is king forever and ever;

  29. The nations shall perish from his land.

  30. O Lord, you will hear the desire of the meek;

  31. You will strengthen their heart, you will incline your ear

  32. To do justice for the orphan and the oppressed.

  33. To do justice for the orphan and the oppressed.
